A Message from Tucker Gladhill, Chair of the Tysons Chamber:
To Our Valued Supporters:
We began 2020 embracing the momentum we have gained over the years as a Chamber of Commerce for the Tysons Region, celebrating our platforms of prosperity, and gearing up to generate new opportunities for our members, constituents, and community. While our team of dedicated board members, committee leaders, and staff charged hard through February finalizing our events for the year and developing innovative strategies for incubating business growth among our membership, little did we know that monumental challenges yielding monumental changes awaited our Tysons community…and abroad.
Your Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce is among the many organizations and businesses that have felt the economic pain resulting from COVID-19’s tear through our Tysons community, our great Nation, and around the world. Many dedicated, loyal, employees have lost their jobs, and many businesses and non-profits have closed their doors for good. The cataclysmic hysteria caused by uncertainty, conflicting theories, and the initial rapid pace of infection, created extreme unrest for us all. We must not forget those that fell victim to COVID-19, and we must continue to encourage and support the selfless acts of our medical community, our civil servants, and those that have, and continue to, lock arms and serve our communities despite the risks.
As if COVID was not enough for us to endure, another “virus” that had deceived this Nation into thinking we had developed an immunity, gained momentum, and compounded upon the duress and suffering experienced through COVID.
The evil of systemic racism has plagued our world, the great country we live in, and our local community, for generations…Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd being among the many that have suffered from the malicious hand of racism. Over the course of history, we have all witnessed the atrocious acts spawned by racism and how it has forged an evil in this World that seems to have stood the test of time. The selfishness of racism, and its exploitation of our brothers and sisters has demonstrated a prevalence in the last decade, more than ever before.
The Tysons Chamber is committed to equity and inclusiveness, and respect and dignity for all. It is time for action against the putrid evil of racism. We stand on the side of love. We stand on the side of justice for the oppressed and denounce the evils of racism.
This letter to you, our members, our constituents, and our community, is not meant to be a hallow promise. It is now time to act….to act for our brothers and sisters that have suffered from systemic racism, to act for our brothers and sisters that have suffered loss from COVID, to act as a beacon of light and a force for good in our community, leveraging our platforms of prosperity and our leadership to contribute to the mass rebuilding many of us are in desperate need for.
We are Tysons…and with every challenge we face, there is an opportunity before us. Our opportunity is now, and we ask you all to lock arms with your Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce and act alongside of us as we build our framework for a loving Regional Chamber of Commerce that recognizes and celebrates our differences, where you will not only make the connections that matter, but you can make the connections that last. It is my hope that, together, we can be a positive example for other organizations, the networks they create, and the membership that makes their existence possible, and continue to build upon platforms of prosperity for all.
